Whether you're checking in on family in Guadalajara, confirming a resort booking in Cancún, or calling a contact in Mexico City, dialing Mexico from the US is genuinely easy once you know the format. Let's get you connected.
The short answer
To call Mexico from the United States, dial:
011 + 52 + the 10-digit phone number
That's it. Three parts:
- 011 - the US exit code (tells your network the call is leaving the US).
- 52 - Mexico's country code.
- 10-digit number - the local number, including its area code.
On a cell phone, just use +
On any mobile phone, you can skip the 011 and use the + sign instead. Press
and hold the 0 key until a + appears, then dial:
+52 + the 10-digit number
Save your Mexican contacts in this +52... format and you can call them with one
tap, whether you're home or traveling.
A quick example
Say the number you're calling in Mexico City is 55 1234 5678 (the 55 is Mexico
City's area code). From the US you'd dial:
011 52 55 1234 5678
Or, using the plus sign on your cell:
+52 55 1234 5678
What about that extra "1" for mobiles?
If you've called Mexico before, you might remember adding a 1 after the
country code to reach a cell phone (011 52 1 ...). Mexico simplified its
dialing rules a few years back, so you no longer need that extra 1 - the same
011 + 52 + 10-digit format now works for both landlines and mobiles.
If an older
+52 1 ...number in your contacts still connects fine, leave it - but for any new number, the clean+52+ 10 digits is the format to use.
Don't get tripped up by the time zone
Most of Mexico is on Central Time, the same as Chicago, though some regions (like Baja California) differ. It's usually close to US time, so you're unlikely to wake anyone at 3 AM - but a quick check never hurts.
Calling Mexico with Parrot Mobile
Mexico is one of the most-called destinations for US residents, and Parrot Mobile makes it affordable. Many plans with talk minutes include calls to popular destinations, and where they aren't included you'll pay a clear per-minute rate with no connection fees.
Want the exact numbers? Check our Mexico calling rates to see the current per-minute cost for landline and mobile (or a friendly "FREE" if it's included in your plan). You can even make the call over Wi-Fi at the same rate when your signal's weak.
Three parts, one tap. Now go say hola. 🇲🇽
